What Is Sunderkand Path?
Sunderkand (also spelled Sundarkand, Sunder Kand or Sundar Kand) is the fifth book of the Ramayana. It tells the story of Hanuman Ji's courage and devotion: how he crossed the ocean, found Mata Sita in Lanka, delivered Lord Rama's message, faced Ravana's court, set Lanka ablaze with his burning tail and returned to Lord Rama with good news. In the Ramcharitmanas of Goswami Tulsidas, this book is especially loved for its verses that speak of strength, faith and the removal of obstacles. A Sunderkand Path is a recitation of this book, often with melodious singing and musical accompaniment, followed by Hanuman Chalisa, aarti and prasad.
Families organise a Sunderkand Path to seek Hanuman Ji's blessings for protection, courage and relief from worries. Many do so on Tuesdays or Saturdays, which are considered special for Hanuman Ji, while others choose a date connected with a birthday, a new home, a new job or a family vow. A Sunderkand Path at home is often described as one of the best ways to invite peace and positive energy into the household.
Why Book Sunderkand Path With Vaishno Jagran Party?
Vaishno Jagran Party, under Bablu Ji, has been serving devotees since 1995 and has performed more than 12,000 devotional programmes. Our team understands that Sunderkand is not just a performance but a prayer, and we present it with a respectful, steady rhythm that is easy to follow. The vocalists are trained in clear pronunciation, and our musicians play instruments in a way that supports the verses rather than overpowering them.
- Trained Sunderkand singers: vocalists who recite and sing the verses with correct pronunciation and a pleasing melody.
- Musical accompaniment: harmonium, dholak, manjira and keyboard, kept soft and supportive.
- Hanuman bhajans: Hanuman Chalisa and well-known Hanuman bhajans added before or after the path.
- Sound system: clear sound suitable for a drawing room, a society hall or a temple.
- Flexible format: a quiet recitation for a home or a full mandali with a decorated Hanuman darbar for larger events.

How Does a Sunderkand Path Programme Run?
- Preparation: the image of Shri Ram Darbar or Hanuman Ji is placed on a clean platform with flowers, incense and a lamp.
- Sankalp and opening prayers: the family makes a short prayer or sankalp with the pandit and Ganesh vandana is sung.
- Sunderkand recitation: the singers recite and sing the verses in sequence, with the family and guests listening or joining.
- Hanuman Chalisa: the Chalisa is sung together, often in the presence of children and elders.
- Aarti: Shri Ram and Hanuman Ji's aarti is performed.
- Prasad: prasad is distributed. Many families also arrange a simple meal.
How long does it take? A Sunderkand Path with singing generally takes two to three hours, depending on the version and the pace, and a few additional bhajans can be added at the beginning or at the end.
The Meaning of Sunderkand
The word sundar means beautiful, and the book is considered the most beautiful because it shows the highest qualities of Hanuman Ji: devotion, intelligence, humility and strength. Devotees also feel that, unlike many sections of the Ramayana that speak of conflict and separation, Sunderkand brings hope. Mata Sita receives her husband's ring and message, Lanka is awakened to the power of dharma and Lord Rama's army prepares to cross the sea. For a household facing a hard period, the recitation becomes a reminder that courage and faith can overcome difficulties. This is why a family may choose Sunderkand before a significant decision, such as moving house, starting a business or beginning a long journey.
When Do Families Organise a Sunderkand Path?
Common occasions include Tuesday and Saturday evenings, Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami, a new home or office opening, a birthday, an anniversary, and the end of a difficult time. Some families begin a long series of Sunderkand recitations every week for a fixed period. Others hold an annual Sunderkand Path at the temple or society.

Sunderkand Path at Home, Society and Temple
Sunderkand Path at Home
A home Sunderkand Path is calm and personal. We suggest a small team of singers with soft instruments, which makes the sound warm in a living room. If you live in an apartment, tell us the floor and the neighbours' timings so that we can plan the volume and the hour.
Sunderkand Path in Societies
For societies and RWAs, a Sunderkand Path may be organised in a clubhouse or park for residents. We coordinate with the society committee for parking, entry and sound permissions. Larger events can include a decorated Hanuman darbar and a bigger mandali.
Sunderkand Path in Temples and Halls
Hanuman temples often hold regular recitation. We can supply additional singers and sound for special days, and we fit the programme into your temple's puja schedule.
Our Sunderkand Mandali
Our singers learn the verses with care because correct pronunciation is important. They understand that the audience wants to follow the story and take part, so the singing is steady rather than rushed. Our musicians keep the rhythm gentle, with softer instruments in the quiet verses and slightly livelier percussion during the stirring ones. Before the programme we ask whether you prefer to follow a particular version or tune of the path, since families and temples sometimes follow their own tradition.
The Story of Sunderkand in Brief
Sunderkand begins with Hanuman Ji, who has learned from Jambavan of his own hidden strength, leaping across the ocean towards Lanka. On the way he meets obstacles that test him: the mountain Mainaka offers rest, the sea-serpent mother Surasa tests his intelligence, and a shadow-grasping demoness named Simhika tries to swallow him. He overcomes each with humility and skill. In Lanka he searches for Mata Sita, finds her in the Ashoka grove, shows her Lord Rama's ring and gives her hope. He then allows himself to be captured, speaks fearlessly to Ravana, and sets Lanka on fire. After returning across the sea, he reports to Lord Rama that Sita is safe. These episodes explain why people turn to Sunderkand for courage and reassurance. When our singers perform the path, they often pause briefly between episodes so that the audience can follow the story.
Sunderkand Path or Hanuman Chalisa: Which Should You Choose?
Many families wonder whether to choose a Sunderkand Path or a Hanuman Chalisa recitation. Both are devotional and both are loved. Hanuman Chalisa is a short composition that can be recited in a few minutes and is easy for everyone to join, while Sunderkand is a longer narrative that takes a couple of hours. A common arrangement is to perform Sunderkand and end with the Chalisa and aarti, which gives the evening a complete shape. If you have limited time or many children present, you can choose a shorter programme with Chalisa and a few bhajans. If you want a deeper, more traditional evening, choose the full path. We will help you decide.
Tips for First-Time Hosts
If this is your first time hosting a Sunderkand Path, do not worry about doing everything perfectly. Keep the setting clean and respectful, light a lamp, keep flowers and prasad ready and let the singers lead the sequence. Share the start time with family and neighbours, because many will want to attend. Ask a family member to receive guests and another to look after prasad, so that the host can sit calmly during the recitation. If you are unsure about any ritual detail, ask your family pandit or temple priest, and tell us about the time they will need so we can plan the music around it.
Cost of Sunderkand Path Booking
If you are asking about Sunderkand Path booking cost, the cost depends on the size of the mandali, the duration, whether you want decoration, the sound arrangement, the date and the distance. A small home Sunderkand costs less than a large community event. We give a clear quote after listening to your requirement and we explain what is included, so you can decide with confidence.

Place mats or chairs for the family, with seating for older relatives. Ask guests to switch off mobile phones during the recitation.
